Ysw Joins Stakeholders For Dialogue On Quality Education
YSW partnered with the Ministry of Education to hold the Nairobi County Educational Dialogue under the theme: Revitalizing Quality Education in Nairobi – Make Education Work for Children.
The conference sought to identify and discuss the challenges that hold back the realization of inclusive quality education in Nairobi and seek possible solutions to these challenges.
YSW participated in the discussions with the aim of promoting institutionalization of life skills education in schools to promote healthy habits and behaviours to reduce the triple threat of teen pregnancy, sexual and gender-based violence and HIV infection.
In a panel discussion, YSW’s programmes manager, Vitalis Mukhebi, highlighted the vital role non-formal dimension of learning such as peer-to-peer education through clubs and societies plays in the holistic development of learners in schools.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja reiterated the county’s commitment to providing quality education for the children through the feeding programme, construction of classrooms and provision of bursaries and scholarships to ensure every Nairobi learner has equal access to opportunities and services. Chief Guest, Education CS, Hon Dr. Ezekiel Machogu EGH committed to setting up special taskforces to 1) spearhead the allocation of public land for construction of schools; 2) assess the capacity and standards of infrastructure of all private schools and 3) map companies for CSR services.
