Lungalunga youth group’s milestone tender boosts child safety and youth employment
Lungalunga Youth Community Based Organisation (LYCBO) secured a construction tender worth 1.4 million KES for the establishment of a toilet facility at Mwalewa Early Childhood Development and Education.
This achievement was possible because of the capacity building in entrepreneurship and resource mobilisation supported by YSW. Members of the LYCBO acquired essential skills that enabled them to compete for the government contracts. These include project management, procurement, financial accountability, teamwork, and construction supervision. These competencies proved crucial during the application process.
In addition to the project creating jobs for the youth, it will also improve enhance the health and safety of the learning environment, which is vital for the dignity and attendance of young learners.
For LYCBO, the project’s profits are anticipated to boost its Income Generating Activities, promote business sustainability, and fund other community initiatives like the LYCBO Super Cup.
This achievement reaffirms that youth groups are viable and reliable partners in local development and with support can align with the county government’s goal of fostering youth and women empowerment through active economic participation.
