Njoro youth centre a safe haven for Nakuru youth
When Emmanuel Baraka, 22, visited the Njoro Youth Empowerment Centre in Nakuru, he was looking for refuge from ongoing conflict at home.
Arriving early and leaving late, Emmanuel saw the centre as his sanctuary, that has allowed him to clear his mind and escape the challenges he faced.
Recognising his struggles, YSW connected Emmanuel with one of the YEC counsellors, who supported him in his healing journey. Over time, he was able to mend his relationship with his family, reconcile with them and regain his sense of stability.
His journey didn’t stop there, he found purpose in helping others and has since taken on the role of YEC leader and mentor. He is currently a pillar of support for his peers, offering guidance and encouragement to those facing similar challenges.
Emmanuel’s transformation is a powerful reminder of the impact of safe spaces like the YEC. What started as a place of refuge for him has now become the platform where he empowers others, proof that with the right support, young people can turn their struggles into steppingstones for growth and leadership.
